Opposition Party Accuses Belgrade Mayor of Wishing To Form His Own Security Structures

With a public-private partnership project looking to introduce an integrated security system in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Sapic is trying to set up parallel structures in the security sector, Nenad Baletic, an official of the opposition People’s Movement of Serbia, has said.

“Although Belgrade has the police force and communal police units, a local law-enforcement agency under the city’s jurisdiction, Sapic is trying to form parallel structures in the security sector. The proposed project envisages assigning a private company with jobs, which are expressly prohibited for private entities under the Law on Private Security, and it will make no savings for the City of Belgrade, while the documentation itself contains numerous controversies and inconsistencies,” Baletic said.

According to him, the project is worth RSD81 billion, or some EUR690 million, with contract duration of 10 years.
