Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti said on Sept. 30 that the agreement between representatives of Albanian parties from Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac on a joint coalition ticket in the Oct. 25 early parliamentary elections was potentially historical.
“That is an important step of unification with the aim of accomplishing a result that can make this agreement historical for the Albanians from the ‘Presevo Valley’,” Kurti said. He further stated that there was, in his words, asymmetry in the rights of the Albanian community in Serbia and the Serb community in Kosovo.
“The Serbs in Kosovo have 10 guaranteed seats out of the total of 120 seats in the Kosovo Assembly and, according to this approach, Albanians from the ‘Presevo Valley’ should have at least five guaranteed seats in the Assembly of Serbia, which has 250 seats,” Kurti said, adding that guaranteed representation should be a principle that is applied in both Belgrade and Pristina.
