The deputy prime minister and the Serbian Progressive Party Presidency member, Zorana Mihajlovic, told the Jan. 6 issue of Belgrade daily Blic that “some opposition parties, led by Bosko Obradovic, Dragan Djilas and Vuk Jeremic, do not wish to run in the upcoming elections as they do not have anything to offer to the citizens,” adding that the citizens would not back such an idea.

Mihajlovic further said that “they know they will lose and that is why they want to assume power outside elections, possibly using violence, but it will not happen.”

“Many will be surprised to see the small number of citizens who will back the boycott. It will be their debacle. No one more than the Progressives want to have the elections by the highest standards as we do not want anything to tarnish the yet another election victory we are expecting. Everybody knows that Serbia today is not a country it was during the times of Milosevic, international sanctions and wars. It is why Europe and the rest of the world do not back the announced boycott of some opposition parties,” Mihajlovic explained.

Asked to comment on the announced “aeration of the Progressives,” Mihajlovic said that “all who have rendered no results or have been behaving arrogantly, should be replaced.”
