Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa said in Strasbourg on July 6 that his country intended to relaunch the question of EU enlargement during its six-month chair over the EU.

"From its own experience Slovenia knows how important a European perspective is where conducting reforms as part of accession talks is concerned," Jansa told the European Parliament during a speech in which he presented the priorities of his country's up-coming six-month chair over the EU.

The Slovenian prime minister said that the objective "is to awaken a refreshened European perspective for the Western Balkans" and added that this promise was made at a summit in Thessaloniki in 2003.

"If we do this, we will demonstrate that we are a strategic player. If were unable to do this, if we do not take a step forward in the Western Balkans, then others, with different interests and values, will take these steps," he warned.
