Air Serbia established a direct air link between Belgrade and Guangzhou, China, on Sept. 30, making it the second destination in the Asian country which the Serbian air carrier is regularly flying to.
Flights between the Serbian capital and Guangzhou, also dubbed "the gateway to southern China," will be carried out twice a week, Mondays and Fridays, on Airbus A330-200 airplanes from Air Serbia's long-haul fleet.
Serbian Minister of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Goran Vesic said at a ceremony on the occasion of the first flight that the economic ties between Serbia and China were becoming increasingly important and that a flight to Shanghai would soon be established as well, according to the Ministry.
Vesic, who is leading the Serbian delegation that took the first flight to Guangzhou, said that besides Air Serbia's two flights per week, a Chinese airline would operate between the two cities too, also twice a week.
Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek said that Guangzhou was one of the most important industrial and trade centers in China, hence his belief that direct flights to the city would be especially interesting to the business communities of China and Serbia, but also of Europe as a whole. The proximity of Hong Kong and Macao, he added, also makes this destination very attractive for tourist visits.
