Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic reminded on July 25 companies that generate waste water in their production processes that they were due to process this water before being released into the sewerage system or “recipient,” and called on them to respect the deadline for making these adjustments.

Vujovic recalled that the transition period for companies was defined by an Act on the allowed values of water pollutants, stressing there would be no tolerance for deviating from the prescribed values after the deadline expired, the ministry said.

“According to the deadline in the Act, there is still a little time for economic subjects that have not secured funding for the pretreatment of waste water, to do so. It is the obligation of all to build facilities for purifying industrial waste water which must be up and running before the designated deadline expires,” Vujovic said, adding that in this way the pretreatment of waste water was being secured, thereby contributing to the protection of rivers and the environment as a whole.
