Serbia Ranks 54th by Global Innovation Index 2025

Serbia ranks 54th among 139 world economies featured in the latest Global Innovation Index (GII) measuring innovation performance, compiled by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and published on Sept. 16.

In the group of 36 upper middle-income economies, Serbia ranks 7th by innovation capabilities, while it ranks 31st among the 39 economies in Europe. Over the past six years, Serbia has ranked between 52nd (2024) and 55th place (2022).

This year Serbia ranks 56th in innovation inputs (institutions, human capital and research, infrastructure, market sophistication, business sophistication), which is a lower position than last year. Serbia ranks 57th in innovation outputs (knowledge and technology outputs, creative outputs). This position is higher than in 20234.

As regards the ranking by GII of other Western Balkan countries, North Macedonia holds 63rd position, Montenegro 64th, Albania 67th, and Bosna and Hercegovina 92nd.
