In recent days, mass protests have started spreading across Serbia in response to the resolve of Aleksandar Vucic’s regime to carry out Rio Tinto’s lithium mining Jadar project. The surprisingly large number of demonstrators and towns where the protests are taking place, as well as the messages being sent from those gatherings, indicate that claims that the question of lithium mining will be solved in the streets are true. Vucic will probably again choose the tactic of waiting for the protests to die down and stop with the passage of time, but this time around that outcome is uncertain.
