The collapse of an overhang at the Novi Sad railway station, in which 14 people lost their lives, immediately turned into the dominant political question in the country, which not only overshadowed other issues, including the lithium mining, but completely removed them from the public sphere. Since the overhang collapsed on Nov. 1, numerous citizens, activists and representatives of opposition parties have been expressing rage at the Aleksandar Vucic regime, whom they hold directly responsible for the death of 14 people. They do not see the collapse, which is one in a series of safety incidents in Vucic’s Serbia, as an accident, but nothing short of murder, arguing that it was caused by the appointing of incompetent staff and corruption.
