From January through June 2025, the Journalists’ Association of Serbia has recorded 100 cases of press endangerment, which exceeds the total from the same period last year by 41, it was announced on July 1.
“What is especially concerning is that the number of cases of press endangerment in the first half of this year equals the total recorded by the Association for last year on whole. Another alarming fact is that this year has seen an absolute record number of physical attacks on journalists for the past five years,” the press release reads.
The Association added that 2025 has also been marked by the firing of journalists who have supported the ongoing university student protests or who opposed the editorial policy of the media houses employing them.
