Pandemic a Political Topic Once Again

Serbia’s ruling bloc led by President Aleksandar Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party didn’t have time to relax and celebrate a landslide election victory on June 21, when the Progressive candidates won two-thirds of seats in the Serbian parliament. Shortly after the election, alarming reports emerged that the coronavirus was spreading again, and the defeated Serbian opposition stepped up accusations that the authorities were responsible. In addition, worrisome messages that democracy was on decline in Serbia began arriving from Brussels and Washington, increasingly critical of Vucic and the ruling coalition.
