In the first five months since the election of Patriarch Porfirije as the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church there have been hints that he will have a somewhat different attitude toward the authorities than his predecessor, Patriarch Irinej. Before his election as patriarch, Porfirije was seen as one of the regime’s candidates for the Church throne, but for now there are some noticeable differences between him and the late Irinej, who openly supported Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
