Last week’s EU–Western Balkans Summit in Slovenia confirmed that there is no single position among the Union member states on the admission of the Western Balkans Six. Even though the region’s prospect of EU membership was confirmed at the summit, no date of accession was set. This will most likely additionally fortify Serbia’s determination to insist on an independent foreign policy and military neutrality, with the inevitable claim that it will “stay on the European road.”
