The unexpected death of the Party of Justice and Reconciliation leader, Muamer Zukorlic, who was a Serbian MP and a former mufti of the Islamic Community in Serbia, will affect developments in Sandzak, a region in Serbia’s southwest, where Bosniaks make up a majority population. Zukorlic’s departure at the age of 51 will certainly change the balance of power between the three largest Bosniak parties in Serbia, as well as the relationship between the two Islamic communities in the country and the position of the International University in Novi Pazar.
