Representatives of the opposition parties organizing the Serbia Against Violence protests demanded on Sept. 5 that snap parliamentary and Belgrade local elections be held by the end of the year and announced a blockade of the parliament due to the authorities’ failure to meet the demonstrators’ demands. Meanwhile, multiple media outlets have announced that even before that demand from the opposition, ruling coalition leader Aleksandar Vucic decided that a snap general election will be held in December. However, that alleged agreement between the regime and the opposition is no guarantee that elections will actually take place before next spring.
