Belgrade Assembly Constitutive Session Halted, Pushed to March 1 (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)

The long-awaited inaugural session of the Belgrade City Assembly, scheduled for Feb. 19, did not take place due to a lack of quorum. The opposition, which is accusing the authorities of fraud in the Belgrade elections, presented the outcome as its victory, claiming that the ruling coalition failed to secure a majority. What happened was in fact a maneuver of the ruling coalition parties, whose aldermen did not show up for the session. The reason is the Vucic regime’s desire to get 10 more days for a decision on whether it will form a new administration in Belgrade or call new elections in the capital.
