The Slovenian government is planning on putting up 40 more kilometers of "anti-migrant" fences on its southern border with Croatia, but has declined to say when and where, calling this information confidential, the April 7 edition of the Ljubljana Delo said.
"To prevent illegal crossings and as a way of directing migrations, police are putting up temporary obstacles on the border in accordance with the government's conclusions which are confidential because they contain important operative information," the Slovenian Foreign Ministry told the Delo newspaper, adding that publicizing this information "would harm the actions of state bodies," the Hina news service reported.
What isn't secret is that the government has brought a plan to erect 40 more kilometers of panel fencing on the border with Croatia to add to the current 116 kilometers of razor fences and 80 kilometers of panel fences by the end of the year.
The Delo newspaper said that 1,800 migrants had illegally crossed into Slovenia in the first quarter of the year, of whom the majority were returned as part of readmissions on the Croatian side.
