Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on April 8 that in hard times such as the coronavirus pandemic, one can recognize who their true friends are, adding that Serbia will know how to remember those countries that had helped it in the most difficult circumstances.
“Not only do we get to know who [our] friends are in these times, not only do we get to see which countries think of Serbia as a friend, but we get to see the future as well. In these terrible times, the worst of times, we are building the politics of the future,” said Vulin at the Belgrade airport where along with Turkish Ambassador Tanju Bilgic he welcomed a Turkish cargo plane carrying medical aid.
Vulin thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on this generous donation that had arrived just at the right moment, adding that Serbia’s future policy hinges on those that had helped and were there for it in times of need.
Bilgic said that the received aid will not solve all of Serbia’s problems but that Turkey wishes to show that it stands with Serbia in these difficult moments.
The Turkish donation comprises various medical supplies, including 100,000 masks, 2,000 protective suits, and 1,500 tests for COVID-19. Turkey has also sent aid packages to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo and North Macedonia.
