Serbian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Branislav Nedimovic on April 8 signed a donation agreement with the representatives of the Chinese Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) on the construction of two state-of-the-art laboratories for COVID-19 testing.

The agreement foresees the construction of two laboratories that can process a total of 3,000 tests per day, which is three times more than Serbia’s current capacities. The facilities include supplementary equipment, tests and sample kits, according to the Serbian government’s official website.

The signing, which was attended by Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo, Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar and Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Aleksandar Antic, was conducted online, via VideoLink. The Serbian side signed the document in the Serbia Palace, and then watched the other side do the same in China.

One laboratory will be set up in the Clinical Center of Serbia, which is expected to begin operating in the next couple of days, while the other will be in Nis, probably in the Public Health Institute.
