EU Delegation to Serbia head Sem Farbizi said on April 13 that Serbia, like the entire region, is headed toward the EU and that this course will not change.
In an interview for the April 13 issue of the Danas daily, Fabrizi also said he disagrees with certain diplomats who think that Serbia "has turned its back on the EU, while favoring Chinese aid", adding that solidarity, on the other hand, should not be used to score geopolitical points.
"In January, when coronavirus was at its peak in Asia, the EU sent 56 tons of medical supplies to China and flew back thousands of people who got caught in the epidemic over there, some of them Serbian citizens, too. China is now reciprocating", Fabrizi explained.
Talking about the EU’s aid to Serbia, Fabrizi said that following the request from March 16, the EU announced it will send an initial package worth EUR93 million, of which EUR15 million was for emergency medical supplies, and EUR78 million for Serbia’s economic recovery.
The head of EU delegation added that nine cargo planes, carrying 300 tons of medical supplies in total, had so far arrived in Serbia, and that more are to come. He also recalled that an agreement on a EUR4.5 million donation for the acquisition of masks, ventilators and containers, was signed on April 3.
"Our emergency aid package from the past three weeks is only a part of a comprehensive two-decade long support program", Fabrizi said.
