The United States of America has earmarked close to USD508 million for curbing the global coronavirus pandemic, the Department of State said on April 17, specifying that USD1.2 million has been given to Serbia.

The press release reads that U.S. state services and agencies are cooperating closely on defining priorities for providing foreign aid. According to the Department of State, the funds in question support key activities aimed at suppressing the infection.

The USD1.2 million earmarked for Serbia has been paid as assistance to the health care system for the purpose of increasing the scope of testing, additional expertise for response and preparedness, better communication and community engagement.

The money, adds the release, has also been used to improve hygienic habits in homes. USAID in Serbia has rerouted USD150,000 for providing food and other forms of support to the most vulnerable families and groups, including the elderly.

The U.S. has invested more than USD1 billion in total aid to Serbia over the last 20 years, including almost USD5.4 million in aid to the health care system, says the Department of State.
