Batut Public Health Institute’s Deputy Director Dr. Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said on April 27 that even though certain public institutions are being reopened, the preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19 have to be applied and the risk of infection lowered.
Dr. Kisic Tepavcevic said for RTS public service that the virus is on the wane and that the citizens are gradually returning to their regular activities, adding that much rests on personal responsibility and risk assessment.
Speaking about the reopening of schools and kindergartens, she said that it has not yet been confirmed if it is possible for the virus to spread among children, and that, as a rule, children show mild or no symptoms when infected. “The reopening of these institutions is not only a question of [public] health. It is much safer to have children spend time [in schools] than with their grandparents; it’s the same as with the flu season,” the deputy director explained.
She advised against larger gatherings, and suggested keeping the physical distance, adding that the citizens are more likely to adhere to these measures if they spend more time outdoors, in warmer weather.
