Two groups of citizens assembled on the steps of the Serbian parliament late on May 11 -- supporters of Serbian Progressive Party MPs Aleksandar Martinovic and Sandra Bozic on one side and on the other sympathizers with Dveri (Doors) movement leader Bosko Obradovic, all three of whom are on a hunger strike.

Police and Gendarmerie were posted to keep the two groups apart, and according to media reports there were no incidents.

Dragan Djilas, one of the leaders of the Alliance for Serbia, called in front of the parliament for relieving the tension. He called the authorities' moves "Goebbelsian" as they were accusing the opposition of what they themselves did.

"I am appealing to them again from this spot to stop. Sit down and let's talk, let's reach agreement on the election, let's reduce the tension," Djilas told N1 TV.

In a televised address from the Presidency seat, Serbian President also called for reducing tension and preventing violence.

Progressive supporters in front of the parliament shouted "Fascist Bosko" and carried Serbian flags and a banner showing a photo of Vucic with Chinese President Xi Jinping, captioned "Serbs and Chinese brothers forever."
