Croatia, holding the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), is trying to make sure that an intergovernmental conference should take place by the end of June, allowing for new chapters in Serbia's negotiations with the EU to be opened by that time, the Croatian ambassador to Serbia, Hidajet Biscevic, said on May 20.
At a meeting with the Serbian minister in charge of the country's EU accession, Jadranka Joksimovic, the ambassador said that the EU enlargement to the Western Balkans was one of the priorities of Croatia's EU presidency, the Serbian government reported.
Ambassador Biscevic, who has recently taken over the diplomatic post in Belgrade, said that his term of office would "largely focus on providing support to Serbia on its path to the EU, and assisting the country through an exchange of opinions."
Minister Joksimovic said that it's very important that in spite of the pandemic Croatia had managed to keep the focus on the Union's enlargement policy and organize an EU-Western Balkans video summit.
