WHO Representative in Serbia Marijan Ivanusa has said that the epidemiological situation in Serbia had been under control the whole time, as there were no sudden jumps in the number of infected nor was the health system overtaxed at any point, concluding that the response to the epidemic was good.

"This is not the time to completely let our guard down, but it is good to review the actions taken so that we can better prepare for the possible second wave", Ivanusa said for the May 28 issue of the Nedeljnik weekly.

According to him, "It is unrealistic for measures to last much longer because of the economy and the people".

"The return to normal has to be done cautiously so as not to make the epidemiological situation worse and let it spin out of control. That is why it is important that the people adhere to the preventive measures such as the prescribed physical distance, and respiratory and hand hygiene", Ivanusa emphasized.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on May 28 that Serbia is entering a period of sporadic COVID-19 cases, which will keep appearing until the epidemic is over. He told the RTS public service that Serbia is on the verge of leaving COVID-19 epidemic behind.
