Montenegros' Institute for Public Health director Senad Begic announced on June 2 that the conditions had ripened to declare the end of the Covid-19 epidemic adding, however, that the risk of contracting the disease still existed.
Begic told Montenegrin state TV that "the epidemiological conditions for the Institute to consider declaring the end of the epidemic have been building up" as no new cases were registered in the past 28 days.
He, however, said that the end of the epidemic "does not change the situation on the ground much because the risk of getting the disease is still there."
On June 1 Montenegro opened its borders saying that it was allowing only citizens from countries where the infection rate was lower than 25 cases per 100,000 people to enter.
Even though it has reopened its border with Serbia, that does not mean that citizens or residents of this country may now freely enter Montenegro, because the infection rate in Serbia exceeds 25 infections per 100,000 people.
Entering Montenegro through Serbia is currently only possible for Montenegrin citizens and foreign nationals with permanent or temporary residence in Montenegro, under the condtion that they self-isolation or are quarantined for 14 days.
