On June 20 the Swiss Embassy in Belgrade will open an exhibition of six young artists from Serbia who were picked in a contest called Private Value which the Embassy is organizing for the third time to help foster local artist and direct the public's attention to them.

The exhibition will consist of paintings, sculptures and video works which will be on display in the residency and its garden.

Phillippe Guex, the Swiss ambassador and instigator of the contest has said that culture is the essential pillar of every state's "soft power." He also said that "in liberal democracies, artists examine the society that they live in and promote tolerance, equality and co-existence in conditions of mutual understanding, which are values that are threatened whenever political or economic tensions rise such as with the coronavirus."

The ambassador also stressed that Belgrade had for decades been a regional cultural hub and that visual art was especially well-established in Serbia which young artists leaned on and where they found their inspiration.
