European Parliament Adopts Resolution on Serbia

On June 17 the European Parliament will vote on a resolution on the countries of the Western Balkans which will call on the EU to do more so that the enlargement process succeeds.

"The Parliament has always been for the countries of the Western Balkans to have a chance join the EU when they are ready," a statement ahead of the plenary session on June 17-19 posted on the European Parliament's website says.

In a resolution in October 2019, the Parliament voiced its disappointment that Albania and North Macedonia could not begin negotiations on membership, stressing that the enlargement process had had a decisive role in stabilizing the Western Balkans.

After a delay lasting months, in March, the European Council decided to begin accession talks with these two countries. The European Parliament will vote on a Eastern Partnership resolution ahead of a key EU-Eastern Partnership summit on June 18.
