Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on July 20 that the coronavirus had “broken the barriers” in Serbia and that it is no longer possible to trace all the infected people’s contacts, because of which “it is necessary to advise every person who was in touch with someone infected to monitor their health and report [to a medical facility] if any symptoms appear.”
Speaking for Happy TV Kon also said that so far all contacts of those who had tested positive to the virus were ordered to self isolate and that during the state of emergency the police were checking whether they abide by such orders, but that this is no longer possible.
“It is becoming impossible, the barriers have been broken,” Kon said and added that other problems related to self-isolation are emerging. Such a person, for instance, cannot work for some time, but now there is no document confirming his or her health status to their employers.
Kon also said that the health-care system is Serbia is not facing a breakdown, but that this would have been the case had there not been any covid medical centers and the ongoing opening of new covid hospitals.
Kon said that there are people who have contracted the disease twice, but that such instances are extremely rare. According to him, the fight against the epidemic demands “total persistence” in applying the preventive measures, keeping physical distance, wearing protective masks and washing hands frequently.
