An epidemiologist and Crisis Headquarters member, Branislav Tiodorovic, has said that the number of new coronavirus cases has been on the decline, adding that if people continued to obey the countermeasures, the situation could calm down by the end of August.

“Let me be clear, the virus will still be present, but the number of new infections on a daily basis should be lower, which are the so-called sporadic cases, around five a day, with no deaths,” Tiodorovic told the Aug. 11 issue of Belgrade daily Blic.

He explained that the situation was heading in the right direction because people had been abiding by the countermeasures, which had been producing results, noting that it should stay that way. He added that all were aware that the life had to go on with the virus.

“By the end of August, many things could be settled, and in September, providing we stay responsible, we could let some events take place, which people truly need. This refers to both, organizers and audience, but also to actors and musicians who have to make a living,” Tiodorovic noted.

“There is no epidemic or pandemic that poses only a health problem as such events are accompanied by social, psychological, economic, and political problems. It is all interconnected,” Tiodorovic specified.
