Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said he does not know what will be on the agenda of a meeting in Washington between the delegation he will head and the delegation of Kosovo, but that the possible presence of U.S. President Donald Trump at it “indicates there may be some new ideas“ in addition to the planned talks on economic issues.
“I have no doubts that difficult, sleapless nights are in store for the delegation I will lead and for all of us, but we know our task and what we have to protect as the most sacred for us – Serbia,“ Vucic told the RTS public service in the evening on Aug. 25.
Vucic emphasized that the delegation he will lead is fully prepared, “ten times better“ than the Kosovo one.
“We will inform the public of everything that is going on, we will hide nothing, and I believe we will have enough strength and wisdom to make the best possible decision for Serbia,“ Vucic said and added that “the people of Serbia will [be the ones to] make the most important decisions.“
The meeting between the Serbian and Kosovo delegations in Washington has been put off for Sept. 4, while some media outlets have speculated that U.S. President Donald Trump could join the talks.
The Washington meeting has been announced by Richard Grenell, the U.S. president's envoy for the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, and is organized by Trump's national security adviser Robert O'Brien. The latter's office has confirmed that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Premier Avdullah Hoti will be present.
