The United Opposition of Serbia (UOS) on Sept. 1 hailed the victory of the democratic opposition in the parliamentary elections in Montenegro, saying they were assured that the wave of democratic changes in the region would continue in Serbia shortly.
The UOS believes that the victory of opposition in Podgorica proved that the fight against authoritarian regime was possible and that the policy based on divisions and conflict would be defeated, sooner or later. “The experience of the Montenegrin opposition is particularly precious for us considering that we in Serbia are faced with a similar regime, which in certain aspects is even more repressive than the one in Podgorica,” according to a release.
The UOS further said that after the changes in Montenegro, Serbia ruled by Aleksandar Vucic, remained “the only authoritarian state in the Balkans, which after the fake June 21 elections, has become the only state in Europe with a parliament without opposition representatives.”
