Participants of the Western Balkans Digital Summit, taking place online from Oct. 26 to 28, have highlighted the importance of digital transformation and connectivity for the countries in the region, especially in the context of the coronavirus pandemic.

The third Western Balkans Digital Summit is hosted by the Government of Albania.

The closing ministerial meeting will be held on Nov. 2, where a Memorandum of Understanding on regional interoperability and trust services in the Western Balkan region and a Memorandum of Understanding on a 5G roadmap for digital transformation in the Western Balkans are expected to be adopted.

Majlinda Bregu, Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) which supports the summit, opened the virtual conference gathering officials of the region's governments, the European Commission, representatives of the business community, and other actors. With the aim of making the digital agenda successful, the RCC will, in Bregu's words, focus on contributing to network connectivity, digital skills and regional interoperability in the Western Balkans.
