Serbia’s former ambassador to London and the Vatican, Vladeta Jankovic, on Oct. 27 said that changes of certain ministers in a future Serbian cabinet confirmed that the relations between Moscow and Belgrade had cooled.
Jankovic told BETA that removing Aleksandar Vulin from the defense sector and appointing Zorana Mihajlovic at the helm of the energy sector pointed to the cooling of the relations between Russia and Serbia with the aim of reducing Moscow’s influence in Serbia.
“Relations between countries do not change overnight, but undoubtedly, the relations between Moscow and Belgrade have somewhat chilled, primarily due to Aleksandar Vucic’s absurd agreement in Washington, which serves nothing but U.S. President Donald Trump’s election interests,” Jankovic specified.
According to him, it is striking that the Socialist Party of Serbia, the party closest to Russia’s interests in Serbia’s political spectrum, “has been left behind.” “But, we should not forget that it is a part of our political theater and a relatively poor election result of the Socialists,” the former ambassador noted.
