Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on Dec. 1 said that the state had been negotiating the production of “some” Covid-19 vaccines in Serbia.

She said that “the entire state leadership as a team” had been working on the procurement of coronavirus vaccines, noting that Serbia would be among the first countries in the world to receive jabs.

“We want to provide citizens with the possibility to choose as some would go only for vaccines produced by Pfizer, some only for those made by Moderna, while some would refuse all but the Russian or Chinese vaccines,” Brnabic told TV Pink.

She further said that “owing to President Aleksandar Vucic and the respect he enjoys with Chinese partners,” Serbia would be the only country which had not taken part in vaccine testing which would receive Chinese vaccines right away.

“We have already agreed with Russian partners that our relevant services, to say it simply, will open their vaccine and examine it,” she added.

Brnabic also said that Serbia “has enough ventilators to meet the demand even in case of a catastrophic scenario,” noting that more than EUR70,000 were spent daily on Covid-19 tests alone.
