Measures against the spread of the novel coronavirus remain in force over the weekend, too, while a new Crisis Headquarters session is slated to take place on Dec. 21.
According to the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation, cultural institutions will have their hours extended until 9 p.m. as of Dec. 21.
The Crisis Headquarters will reassess the current measures at the next session.
On Dec. 18, Mirsad Djerlek, state secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Health, urged people to avoid every contact that is not necessary.
"The measures have started to yield results, but we have a very serious challenge ahead -- the celebration of St Nicholas. Christmas is approaching, too, New Year's, where there will be a lot of contact," Djerlek told Pink TV.
According to him, it is important for Serbian citizens to know that there was no chance of a curfew or state of emergency. He said epidemiological circumstances were very grave and dangerous, and that the next three to four weeks depend on how people behaved over the upcoming holidays.
Djerlek said the vaccine was not "a magic bullet" and that people would have to continue to wear masks and distance even after vaccination.
