Dragan Djilas, leader of Serbia’s Freedom and Justice Party, said on Dec. 21 that “everyone who is against the authorities, and who is a clear opposition to Aleksandar Vucic’s regime” is welcome to sign demands for fair and free elections.

Djilas told the N1 TV that the election control, freeing of media and separation of elections are the three key items the opposition will demand from the authorities when the announced dialogue between the two sides that should proceed with the mediation from EU Parliament representatives, continues.

“One of these demands [concerns] the media in Serbia, primarily the chance for the truth to be presented on the RTS [public service]. The second [has to do with] the election control, as the regime gets more votes by pressuring the voters… The point is to create a mechanism that will allow the people to vote without fearing for their future. And, of course, you can’t have all the elections held the same day,” Djilas said.

When asked if the opposition will stand together behind these demands, Djilas replied that the United Opposition of Serbia is not in unison on who will sign them.

The People’s Party has on more than one occasion rejected the possibility of cooperating with the parties that participated in June parliamentary elections.
