Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has announced that the administration of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine from the first shipment will begin on Dec. 24, most probably in retirement homes, since the elderly population there are the ones mostly endangered by the virus.
After visiting a farm in Golubinci in the Srem region on Dec. 23, Vucic said that the size of the first shipment is limited, and that a more massive vaccination can be expected as of mid-January.
“If we manage to vaccinate one million people by the end of January, it would be a big success…The vaccine is a chance for salvation, it has saved humanity, and if it weren’t for it, [and] against other diseases, it is a question how many people would be living on the planet today. This is why it is important that [the vaccination] begins as soon as possible, so [that] we can save as many people as we can,” Vucic said.
He added that certain highest officials will also be vaccinated, as a message to the people that it is necessary and good.
“Whether it will be [Prime Minister] Ana Brnabic, myself, or Darija [Kisic-Tepavcevic], or several other – we will see. Some of us will be left for the second [round of vaccination], to show the people that every vaccine our healthcare system receives is good,” the president said.
