The immunologist Srdja Jankovic has said that the estimated threshold for herd immunity that would curb coronavirus spread in a community was 70 percent.

"That includes vaccinated people and people who have had COVID-19, on condition that they have acquired a long-term protective immune response," Jankovic told the Politika daily in an interview published on Dec. 25.

He said Serbia was very far from this threshold, but would edge toward it as vaccination progresses.

"It's premature now to talk about eliminating the coronavirus in our country or the world, but certainly covering a considerable proportion of the population with the vaccine helps in slowing down the contagion," he added.
