The National Health Insurance Fund director, Sanja Skodric, on March 23 said that Serbia had 5,800 doses of an innovative drug against the coronavirus, produced by American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly.
Skodric told TV Prva that Serbia was among four countries in Europe to have this medicine, along with Germany, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
She explained that the drug “binds to the places where the virus attaches to cells” thereby preventing further progress of the disease. According to her, the medicine is administered once, through infusion therapy, and requires no hospitalization.
Skodric added that the drug was intended for patients with mild to moderate symptoms, but were at risk of developing severe illness.
