During a meeting with representatives of the national Romani National Minority Council on Apr. 8, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stressed the importance of preserving the Romani language and culture as well as the inclusion of unemployed Roma in retraining programs.

Vucic underlined on International Romani Day and the 50th anniversary of the first World Romani Congress the importance of enabling quality education for youth, especially through dual education programs.

Serbian Speaker Ivica Dacic said that the position of Roma was still poor, and that more needed to be done to improve their position in society.

Minister of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialog Gordana Comic has said that it is important that Roma are allowed to freely express their identity without discrimination. "It is important that Romi are free to express their ethnic and national roots in censuses and freely express their identity because this is important to people," she said.
