Member of European Parliament (MEP) Tanja Fajon said that ideas about creating new borders are extremely dangerous, which “particularly goes for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has paid the highest price of the breakdown of Yugoslavia.”
“The war has left deep abyss that only cooperation, tolerant dialogue and an active role of the international community, can bridge,” Fajon, who is also one of EP’s mediators in the inter-party dialogue in Serbia, said for the April 22 issue of the NIN weekly.
She recalled that the current structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established by the Dayton peace agreement which ended the 1992-1995 war. She said it is necessary to consider better action and cooperation frameworks, but that the matter must be approached in a way that does not inspire disintegration.
“What role should Slovenia play? As a country soon to take over the EU Presidency and, historically and geographically close to the Western Balkans, it should facilitate state’s path to the EU, not make it more difficult,” Fajon responded.
The Slovenian MEP also said she is sorry that Slovenia’s reputation is declining because of one person and that it would be wise for Slovenian Prime Minster Janez Jansa to explain his view on the EU enlargement, especially his view on Bosnia and Herzegovina.
