Immunologist Dusan Popadic said on May 13 that he did not believe that current measures against the coronavirus were too restrictive, and that he was sure "that there isn't room now for a further relaxation [of measures] generally speaking, and especially no room for individuals to relax."
"Over the past several days the number of new cases of infections has been around 1,000 which is definitely better than in the previous weeks, but still not good enough and we should under no circumstances fully relax. When I say we shouldn't relax I mean that each individual must practice maximal adherence to the prescribed epidemiological measures," Popadic told Serbian state TV.
He also said that Serbia "is still fairly far" from collective immunity.
"When 95 percent of the adult population is immunized, then we can talk about a collective immunity of sorts which will protect the weakest among us. We are nowhere near this, and if this tempo persists maybe until the fall, unless we see excessive relaxation and a slowing of the process of immunization then we will have an incomparably better situation somewhere in the fall," Popadic said.
