Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on May 27 that 45.3 percent of Serbia’s adult population has been immunized against COVID-19, which she added, is not enough for the development of collective immunity. That is why she has called on the Serbian youth to sign up for the jab as soon as possible.

The prime minister and the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Bo Chen together welcomed the plane carrying the final shipment of the Chinese vaccines that arrived in the morning on May 27. The agreement with the Chinese company Sinopharm, which stipulated the delivery of 4 million doses, has thus been finalized, Brnabic said at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla airport.

The prime minister added that the Chinese partners have done more for Serbia than it was envisioned by the agreement, by not only delivering all the 4 million vaccine doses in the shortest possible time, but having the Chinese army donate another 200,000 doses as well. “And so we got 4.2 million doses in total, which is enough for 2.1 million citizens,” she said.

The Chinese ambassador stated that her country will continue the joint fight against COVID-19 with Serbia, even after the delivery of the final shipment of vaccines on May 27.

“Sinopharm has honored all its contractual obligations within the set deadline, which goes to show that China and Serbia share a “steel” friendship and are reliable partners in critical moments,” Bo Chen said.
