President Aleksandar Vucic on June 22 said that a frozen conflict in Kosovo and Metohija did not suit Serbia as the western power would not change their position on this issue.
“There are those claiming that as time passes, we are growing stronger and they are getting weaker. Yes, in economy wise, but politically, it is questionable, because the western powers will not change their position on Kosovo and Metohija. Whatever happens, they will advocate an independent Kosovo and its secession from Serbia at all costs,” Vucic told MPs in the Serbian parliament.
Vucic stressed that frozen conflict did not suit the Serbs still living in enclaves in Kosovo, as their way of living was incomparably harder than of those living in central Serbia.
“They also wish that talks are conducted so that any time in the future we could reach a compromise solution. But, if fail to reach it, someone will unfreeze the conflict. And if that happens, it will not be only the question as to who has more weapons, but who has the right to return someone’s children in coffins,” Vucic said, adding that the task was not easy and “it is not the time for big expectations which are not corresponding to reality.”
