A festivity was held in Skopje on June 29, to mark the return of North Macedonian Army members from the NATO peace-keeping missions 2002/21 in Afghanistan.

Skopje has withdrawn its soldiers from Afghanistan in line with the decision of all NATO member countries on the completion of the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission.

“The last rotation of army members in Afghanistan has completed. Our peace-keepers have returned home, which ended the nearly two-decade long participation of the Army in NATO - ISAF and Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan,” Defense Minister Radmila Sekerinska said in army barracks Ilinden during a line-up of the soldiers who participated in the mission.

From 2002 to 2015, some 3,000 members of the North Macedonian Army were deployed to the ISAF forces in Afghanistan to various positions and tasks. Since 2015, 500 soldiers took part in the Resolute Support Missions, in the Center for training, counseling and assistance in Kabul.
