In an operation codenamed The Beach, police discovered an encampment of undocumented migrants in the area of Srpski Krstur, in the municipality of Novi Knezevac, on July 4, where they found persons and objects of interest, the Serbian Interior Ministry said in a press release.
The statement says that Serbian Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin and police director Vladimir Rebic were present during the execution of the operation, which focused on finding undocumented migrants and identifying those among them implicated in human trafficking, theft and extortion from other migrants, and other criminal acts.
Vulin said the arrested members of the human trafficking ring had committed "various criminal acts and given reason for our citizens in this part of Serbia to feel unsafe," declaring that "this won't be allowed and won't be tolerated."
