Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at an Aug. 5 ceremony on the 26th anniversary of Croatia's Storm military and police operation in Knin that Croatia would never allow the "legitimacy of storm and the defensive character of the Homeland war" to be questioned and called on Serbia to turn to a policy of reconciliation.

"Generosity in victory does not mean that we will ever allow the legitimacy and defensive character of the Homeland war to be questioned by anyone. This is our message to our neighbor Serbia which was supposed to abandon its futile rhetoric of the past, and face its responsibility and turn to a policy of reconciliation and the future," Plenkovic was quoted as saying by HINA.

Plenkovic also said that today "we are paying homage to the victorious Croatian army and Croatian police which led by president (Franjo) Tudjman defeated the evil Greater Serbian policy of the Milosevic regime', which secured the survival of Croatia, ended the war and established lasting peace.

At the central ceremony on the anniversary of Storm which is also celebrated as Victory and Gratitude to the Homeland Day and Croatian Defenders' Day, Plenkovic said that the Homeland war and the victory achieved in operation Storm and before that operation Flash and other operations, were the foundations of the modern Croatian state.
