Dacic, Zorcic: Relations between Serbia, Slovenia Excellent

Serbian and Slovenian speakers Ivica Dacic and Igor Zorcic, respectively, said in Belgrade on Aug. 26 that relations between the two countries were at a very high level and voiced a readiness for their continued improvement.

At a joint news conference Dacic thanked Slovenia, the EU's chairing state, for its support for Serbia's European integration process. Zorcic said that one of the priorities of the Slovenian EU chairmanship was its expansion and added that Ljubljana was offering a lot of support for the EU's expansion to the Western Balkans and that it wanted to encourage Serbia and other countries on their European roads.

"We cannot expect huge results in these six months (the duration of Slovenia's chairmanship) but we hope for certain progress," Zorcic said, who is Slovenia's parliamentary speaker.

Dacic said that bilateral relations "are perhaps at the highest level" in the past 30 years since Slovenia became independent and added that Serbia was interested in the constitutional and legal improvement of the status of members of the Serb community in the former Yugoslav republic.

Dacic and Zorcic discussed the issue of succession of the former Yugoslavia and said that both countries had an interest in the expedition of the process and wrapping it up as soon as possible.
