A new 19,500 square-meter COVID hospital with over 600 beds opened in Novi Sad on Sept. 2.
At the hospital's inauguration, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that Novi Sad had received a general hospital. "This is the hospital that was talked about for such a long time, dreamt about in Novi Sad for decades and forgotten because of the Vojvodina Clinical Center," she said, adding that the cost of building the hospital was RSD3.9 billion while furnishing it cost EUR17 million.
Brnabic said that 51.6 percent of the adult population in in Serbia had been vaccinated and called on citizens to get vaccinated because that was the only way to beat the coronavirus. Provincial Health Secretary Zoran Gojkovic has said that 165 physicians have been hired to work in the hospital along with 200 medical technicians.
"We practically have no doctors on unemployment in Vojvodina, this was something that was inconceivable a few years ago," Gojkovic said speaking on a contest for hiring 1,143 workers for the institution.
